Gracie Art Hotel will invite seven artists to an ultimate art experiment on a residential basis. The project puts the artists to an ultimate test of creativity within a limited time and space. On the condition of causing no material increase to the hotel, the artists may avail themselves of found objects, space transformation, conceptual output, image output, etc. for artistic “production”.

The seven artists will, each in their own room, keep a diary that will become a dialog with future room occupants. The project will focus on “hotel” to explore such issues as the public and the private, space and dislocation, boundaries between found objects and artworks, and through ultimate experimentation, explore boundaries between art and non-art, which is also an exploration and extension of Mono-ha (School of Things).

Artistic Theme Rooms

The artists will take down their process of artistic creation and feelings during the seven days and nights, which will be kept in the theme rooms. The artists will keep their art notes in the theme rooms in various ways, and future occupants may take down their own notes, thus forming a perpetual artistic dialog in a space of blended publicity and privacy. In the meanwhile, a dialog will be arranged among the artists, and their artistic notes will be put together and published.

Artists to Be Invited

Artists in various fields like painting, animation, installation art, conceptual art, curtain painting, sounds and devices will be invited to create in the hotel, drawing unique inspiration from the ambiance and exploring an ultimate experience of space.
